About Mairi
Hi, I'm Mairi, a Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula deeply rooted in the San Francisco Bay Area. My childhood was a blend of wild exploration and creative expression: I grew up climbing trees, playing music, doing modern dance, and going camping—I was often barefoot! These early experiences fostered a deep connection to my body's capabilities and the natural world, principles I bring to my doula practice.
My path to birth work began incredibly early. At just seven years old, I had a profound, formative experience: I was present at my little sister's birth, rubbing my mom's back and holding her hand as she brought new life into the world. This powerful witnessing ignited a lifelong fascination with pregnancy and the wonder of new beginnings. Throughout my life, I've always gravitated toward roles involving teaching, babies, and children.
After living in Santa Cruz and earning my degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from UCSC, I moved back to Redwood City and spent over a decade as a professional nanny. It was during this time, and through learning more about my own mother's birth experiences, that I had a significant realization: the immense value of having an advocate in the birth room. Someone who truly understands and can voice a birthing person's values and desires, providing unwavering support.
This insight sparked a deep desire within me to protect the precious birth space and led me to shift my career focus to the childbearing continuum. I absolutely love my job, and I love birth. It is a profound honor to witness the incredible power of birth and to form such deep connections with my clients. I can't wait to connect with you!
